Last year, analyzing Big Data sets was an emerging issue for many government agencies. Now that these organizations have had a chance to field Big Data solutions for over a year, the needs of government are shifting as new lessons are identifying new opportunities. This year's forum was been built with those areas of focus in mind as we brought together several government and industry thought leaders including our morning keynote, Gus Hunt, CTO, CIA, who discussed perspectives on Big Data mission needs; Dr. Amr Awadallah, Founder and CTO, Cloudera, who updated us on Big Data trends; John Marshall, CTO, Intelligence Directorate, Joint Staff/J2, who went more in depth on the emerging role of the Chief Data Officer and Data Scientist; and Tim Schmidt, CTO, Department of Transportation, who elaborated on lessons learned from one of the DoT's most transformational Big Data initiatives.
We also presented a Big Data solutions showcase featuring succinct presentations from pioneers of the Big Data movement in industry, including startups Cloudera, Datameer, and Digital Reasoning and established providers like VMware, SAP, Thetus, and MarkLogic.
